Jazz pianist Chick Corea, discovered by Miles Davis and featured on important works such as "In a Silent Way," "Bitches Brew," and "On the Corner," and who sparked a huge fusion boom with his own 1972 leader album "Return to Forever," released this album in 1972 as his second work after moving to ECM. As the title suggests, it is a piano solo work composed entirely of free improvisation. Covers of Wayne Shorter's "Masquellero" and Thelonious Monk's "Trinkle Tinkle" expand on the imagery derived from those pieces, developing into improvisations. Like "Vol. 1," it is a masterpiece with deep and emotional performances that clearly reveal Corea's religious views and spirituality. B3, where the piano melody intensely builds as if expressing all of creation, is particularly superb. This is an original German pressing with no spine text and no "MADE IN GERMANY" notation.
