This is an album released in 1979 by American tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman, a highly regarded rare groove artist who has produced numerous masterpieces during his career, ranging from avant/free to ethnic jazz and standards. Recorded in 1977 at a Los Angeles studio with a quintet that included Hilton Ruiz (p), Junieeh Booth (b), Elvin Jones (ds), and Jumma Santos (p). Hard bop backed by a deep spirituality in the vein of John Coltrane is simply wonderful. Groovy tunes like the samba-jazz B2 featuring organic percussion by Santos is also great.
