An album released in 1966 by Chico Hamilton, one of America’s leading jazz drummers, known for his work with groups led by Lester Young, Gerry Mulligan, and Count Basie, as well as for recording outstanding material under his own name ranging from cool jazz to mellow fusion in step with the times. The septet features Charlie Mariano (as), Jerome Richardson (fl), Ron Carter (b), Gabor Szabo (g), Willie Bobo (perc), and Victor Pantoja (perc), with additional contributions from Clark Terry (tp) and Richard Davis (b). With two Latin percussionists in the lineup, the Latin/Caribbean jazz that defined Hamilton’s sound during this era is elevated into an even more fully realized groove, resulting in a superb album. Every track is excellent, from uplifting tunes to moody slow numbers. This is an original U.S. pressing and includes the insert added by King Records when it was imported at the time.
