Released in 1973, this album is by Complesso di Sante Palumbo, the group led by Italian pianist Sante Palumbo. After first attracting attention as a member of Giorgio Buratti’s trio in the late 1960s, Palumbo appeared at jazz festivals throughout Italy and performed with numerous American musicians, including Johnny Griffith, Tony Scott, and Joe Venuti. The quintet features Gianni Bedori on saxophone and flute, Sergio Farina on guitar, Marco Ratti on bass, and Lino Liguori on drums. Based in modal jazz while incorporating elements of Brazilian music such as bossa nova as well as soul jazz, the album achieves an exquisite balance between relaxed, lounge-like arrangements and a highly groovy sensibility. A classic of Italian jazz. This is the 2013 heavyweight-vinyl reissue from seriE.WOC, and the sound quality is excellent.
