After first coming into his own in the late ’60s through his involvement with Giorgio Buratti’s trio, and going on to appear at major jazz festivals throughout Italy while performing alongside such American musicians as Johnny Griffith, Tony Scott, and Joe Venuti, Italian pianist Sante Palumbo left behind this superb 1973 album with his group, Complesso Di Sante Palumbo. Recorded in quintet format with Gianni Bedori (sax, flute), Sergio Farina (guitar), Marco Ratti (bass), and Lino Liguori (drums), the album presents a beautifully balanced blend of modal jazz at its core, enriched with elements of Brazilian music including bossa nova and touches of soul jazz. The result is a superb Italian jazz masterpiece, where lounge-like, gently flowing arrangements coexist perfectly with a deeply groovy sensibility. This is the 2013 heavyweight vinyl reissue on seriE.WOC. Sound quality is also excellent.
