This is a masterpiece album released in 1984 by Conlon Nancarrow, a composer born in Texarkana, Arkansas, USA. Nancarrow is known as one of the first composers to invent sound programming using perforated paper for the player piano (automatic piano) and to exploit the technical possibilities of mechanical instruments to outperform human performance capabilities. This album also contains 13 interesting case studies composed for player piano, which automatically play complex and rhythmic melodies in staccato, almost percussion-like fashion. It is a historical achievement to have discovered avant-garde music with a different conception from the 12-tone technique and total tone row technique of Arnold Schonberg, Anton Webern, and others. Recommended.
