A 1982 double album by pianist Chick Corea, who continued to pursue new musical directions throughout his long career, most notably with Return to Forever. Recorded in a Los Angeles studio in 1981, the album features bassist Miroslav Vitous, a key member of Weather Report during the 1970s, and drummer Roy Haynes, who had been actively exploring free jazz and other adventurous forms of music since the 1960s. Disc 1 is devoted to free improvisations performed by the trio and in duo settings, selected from an enormous amount of music recorded with virtually no prior discussion or preparation. Disc 2, on the other hand, is dedicated entirely to compositions by Thelonious Monk, approached and performed with remarkable depth and insight.
