A 1986 debut album as a leader by Jamaican-British multi-instrumentalist Courtney Pine, who had been active with the reggae DJ duo Clint Eastwood & General Saint since the early 1980s and later gained international recognition with the major success of I’m Still Waiting in 1990. From his own compositions to pieces by jazz greats such as Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter, Pine reinterprets the material through his exceptional arranging skills and instrumental technique, resulting in a masterpiece that seemed to herald a new era for jazz. B1 is especially outstanding, a mellow jazz track with a strong R&B flavor featuring Julian Joseph.
B1: Children of the Ghetto
B2: When, Where, How and Why
