Italian alto saxophonist Cristina Mazza, who has also released works with Mal Waldron and Reggie Workman, released her first leader album in 1988 on Splasc(h), a label that has led the Italian new jazz scene since the mid-1980s. The album features Beppe Castellani (ts), Luigi Bonafede (p), Marco Vaggi (b), Riccardo Biancoli (ds). The album is a superb piece of hard bop/spiritual jazz that shows great love and respect for John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, and Pharoah Sanders, including A1, which is an ear-catching theme melody that pays homage to John Coltrane's immortal masterpiece "Love Supreme”.
