The first album by Old and New Dreams, featuring Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Eddie Blackwell, four masters of free/experimental jazz who were members of the Ornette Coleman group. True to its title, this album expresses both respect for Ornette Coleman and the current state of the four members. Besides A1, a Coleman cover, it includes original compositions by Cherry, Haden, and Redman. Haden's A3 is spiritual ethnic jazz that resonates with the worldview of Don Cherry's masterpiece albums "Organic Music Society" and "Brown Rice." The faint ethnic female vocals heard in the distance during the latter half are intoxicating. And Redman's title track B3 is psychedelic avant-jazz where Ornette's spirit and an ethnic orientation are sublimated, moving in an even more spiritual direction. It's simply mind-blowing.
