A 1985 leader album by British bassist Dave Holland, who has appeared on numerous ECM sessions and recorded many outstanding albums under his own name. He leads a quintet featuring Kenny Wheeler (tp, flh), Julian Priester (tb), Steve Coleman (as, fl), and Steve Ellington (ds). Dedicated to the legendary bassist Charles Mingus, whom Holland deeply respects, the album is a masterpiece of forward-looking jazz that further develops and elevates the free-jazz innovations pioneered by Ornette Coleman. The floating groove of A2 and the gentle, subtly shaded atmosphere of B2 are especially pleasing. Original German pressing.
