A superb 1975 outing from American saxophonist Dave Liebman, a notable alumnus of the Miles Davis band. The lineup is exceptional, featuring John Abercrombie on guitar, Richard Beirach on electric piano, Bob Moses on drums, Collin Walcott on tablas, Patato Valdez on conga, Badal Roy on tablas, and more. From the spiritual Brazilian-flavoured opener A1, where Liebman’s ultra-cool tenor and Beirach’s fluid electric piano soar over a furious barrage of drums and percussion, to A4, driven by the astonishing double-drum assault of Bob Moses and Jeff Williams, and B1, an ethnic reworking of a classic John Coltrane composition, the whole album delivers deeply primitive, heavily tribal performances of the highest order.

A1: Goli Dance
A4: The Call
B1: Your Lady
