David Amram and Friends
Latin-Jazz Celebration
Elektra Musician (US) 1982
Musician 9 (LP) w/insert.
sleeve : EX-(CO, wear on corner.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noise.)
An album released in 1982 by David Amram, the multi-instrumentalist and composer whose masterpiece Havana/New York was also featured in the first edition of the guidebook “Obscure Sound.” The record features an impressive lineup including Candido, Machito, Pepper Adams, and Paquito d’Rivera. Dedicated to Native Americans and to jazz and Latin music, the album opens with A1, a reworking of a live recording originally featured on Havana/New York (1977), here presented at a faster tempo with a more polished, sophisticated sound. The rest of the album explores percussive, Latin-tinged jazz inspired by Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Native American traditions. A wonderful record that radiates David Amram’s deep affection for Latin music. Highly recommended.
A1: En Memoria De Chano Pozo
B1: Blue Bomba (Bomba Azul)
