Conference of the Birds

This is a leader album released in 1973 by Dave Holland, an English bassist who has participated in many ECM sessions and has many leader albums. The quartet was joined by Sam Rivers (reeds,ft), Barry Altschul (perc), and Anthony Braxton (reeds,ft). The album opens with A1, which is flooded with interplay, and is mainly free jazz with slow and steady improvisation, but there are also some nice tracks such as A3, which is very pleasant with its nostalgic lead unison and mellow bass line, and B2, which has an unstable melody floating slowly in the air with a sense of gloom. Altschul's drumming is also amazing.
