David Pituch
Plays New Compositions for the Eb Alto Saxophone
Pro Viva (Germany) 1984
ISPV 122 (LP)
sleeve : VG+(wear on corner, dirts on rear.)
media : EX-/EX-(some slightly surface noise and some light click noise.)
An album released in 1984 by American saxophonist David Pituch, who has performed with numerous orchestras including the Boston Pops and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and to whom many avant-garde composers have dedicated works. This recording features compositions for alto saxophone by Brian Fennelly, Jan Fotek, Andrzej Dutkiewicz, and Joji Yuasa. While Fennelly’s A1, built on rhapsodic and polyphonic structures, and Dutkiewicz’s B1, a duo for alto saxophone and piano, are both outstanding, it is Yuasa’s B2 that truly captivates, as electronically processed alto saxophone creates a singular, immersive ambient space.
A1: Brian Fennelly “Tesserae VIII”
B1: Andzej Dutkiewicz “Danse Triste”
B2: Joji Yuasa “Not I, But The Wind…”
