This is a 1970 album by American saxophonist Dewey Redman, known for his work with Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarrett's groups since the late 1960s. In the 1970s and 1980s, he formed 'Old and New Dreams' with Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell, leaving notable works on labels like ECM and Black Saint. This album features recordings made in Paris, France in 1969 with a trio consisting of Malachi Favors (bass) and Ed Blackwell (drums) from the Art Ensemble of Chicago. It showcases a remarkable blend of ethnic jazz with strong influences, with tracks like the musette-inspired A1, featuring oriental melodies with a chalumeau-like sound, and the Afro-jazz B1 that directly connects with Don Cherry's style.
