This 1981 album by Algerian musician Djamel Allam, based in Marseille, France, was released in Spain on the Movie Play label. A number of Algerian musicians participate, playing various Arab folk instruments such as karkabou and darbuka. The album features a rich tapestry of exotic grooves, including the A1 track, where dry percussion beats interweave with alluring vocals, and B4, an ethno jazz track where guitar and upright bass sway gently over a simple darbuka rhythm. Blending elements of Arab folk music with jazz, rock, and other styles, this psychedelic oriental masterpiece is filled throughout with a distinctive exotic groove and a vibrant gypsy spirit.
