This album, released in 1980, is by the North African-Algerian vocal group Djurdjura, consisting of the Abouda3 sisters Djouhra, Fatima, and Malha. Combining traditional folk melodies with poems about the struggle of women in an oppressive society, the group delivers beautiful choral work with delicate vocal tones. However, tracks like A3/B3, reminiscent of the sound production of Algerian musician Djamel Allam who worked in France, feature quite contemporary arrangements. While incorporating the Arab scales typical of the Islamic world, there is a distinctive charm that elevates the traditions of the Berber people, a minority ethnic group within Algeria.
