This masterpiece album was released in 1965 by Dollar Brand, a South African jazz pianist/composer who has been active since the 1960s and has created numerous masterpieces with African themes. Recorded live during his performance at The Montmartre Jazzhus in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1965, the album features Brand on piano alongside South African musicians Johnny Gertze on bass and Makaya Ntshoko on drums as a trio. The album offers thrilling and tense moments, with tracks like the cool title track A1 and the Cape Jazz-inspired cover of Thelonious Monk's classic B1. Throughout the album, listeners can enjoy Brand's performances filled with his imaginative prowess. This domestic release was issued by Trio in 1972.
