sleeve : NM-(IN SHRINK)

South African jazz pianist and composer Dollar Brand, who has been active since the 1960s and is known for numerous masterpieces themed around Africa, released this album in 1974 as a Japan-only project, with this edition being the U.S. pressing. It features the emotionally charged A1, an inspired reinterpretation of the classic “Caravan”; the A2 suite based on African folk melodies; B1, which opens with Brand’s solo vocal performance; and B2, a medley of three Duke Ellington compositions. Throughout, Brand’s bright piano tone and strong, percussive attack are vividly captured in the recording, making this an outstanding-sounding album. Highly recommended.
