This is a 1979 album by the South African jazz pianist/composer Dollar Brand, also known as Abdullah Ibrahim, who has been active since the 1960s and has produced numerous masterpieces with an African theme. It features live recordings from a concert that he performed in 1965 at Jazzhuis Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark, alongside South African musicians such as Johnyy Gertze on bass and Makaya Ntshoko on drums. The album includes two tracks that were originally released in 1965 on "Anatomy of a South African Village" by Fontana in the Netherlands, as well as three previously unreleased takes. Brand's piano playing during this era is beautifully powerful and demonstrates a high level of sophistication. Despite being older recordings, the sound quality is excellent.
