This is a historic Don Cherry record, recorded in Paris, France in 1969 and released in 1969 as the first in the Actuel series under BYG. It was recorded with drummer Ed Blackwell, a close friend from the Ornette Colemane group. The album opens with Cherry's pocket trumpet, which screams freaky like an elephant's cry, and Blackwell's furious drumming in response, and after the middle section, where the ethnic melody of the bamboo flute invites a trip to another world, it ends in a mandala world as if it were the chaos of the universe. This is a work that could be called the starting point for the ethnic jazz that Don Cherry will pursue in the future. Original French pressing.
