Canadian pianist Don Thompson, known for his work with Jim Hall, Paul Desmond, Doug Riley and others, issued this leader album in 1976. Recorded in trio format with American bassist Gene Perla—a seasoned player who performed with Willie Bobo, Nina Simone, and Sonny Rollins—and drummer Joe LaBarbera, widely recognized for his work with Chuck Mangione. The session finds Thompson on both piano and vibraphone, underlining his extraordinary versatility. The elegant title track A1 pairs graceful piano with shimmering vibraphone over a relaxed rhythm section, while B3 highlights a rich ensemble interplay driven by a strong groove. A beautifully conceived modal jazz album that fully expresses Thompson’s organic and peaceful musical vision.
A1: A Country Place
A3: Sasha’s Delight
