This is an album released in 1976 by Donald Smith, a pianist who was a member of Andrew Cyrille & Maono and his brother Lonnie Liston Smith's group The Cosmic Echoes, and who also showed great talent on vocals and flute, including the classic "Expansions”. Recorded the same year in a New York studio with Cecil McBee (b) and Jack DeJohnette (ds), who also played together on Billy Parker's Fourth World, the trio recorded this album. All of the original scores are by Smith, McBee, and DeJohnette, and while the aggressive, avant-garde performances are superb, A2/B3, with Smith's emotional piano, are the best of all. This is the original Japanese pressing independently produced by Whynot, a label under Trio Records.
