East-West Encounters
Cameo Classics (UK) 1982
GOCLP9018 (LP) w/insert.
sleeve : EX-(some wear on edge and corner, collapse on three corners.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noises.)
A obscure album released in 1982 by Dreamtiger, a one-off project consisting of American flutist Kathryn Lukas, British pianists Douglas Young and Peter Hill, and British cellist Rohan de Saram. The album features A1, a piece by Colin McPhee where minimalistic melodies reveal Oriental scales, and A2, an original composition by Douglas Young, constructed with wind-like flute melodies and scattered percussion sounds reminiscent of musique concrète. Throughout the album, the group delivers outstanding performances of postmodern contemporary music composed by Colin McPhee, Olivier Messiaen, and George Crumb, exploring the fusion of Eastern cultures—such as Indonesian and Indian influences—with Western traditions from a contemporary perspective. Highly recommended.A1: Balinese Ceremonial Music.
