A double album released in 1989 by French organist Eddy Louiss. Centered around the bluesy, viscous groove of jazz organ, the album draws in big band arrangements, brass fanfare, fusion, and even violin, creating a world where the festive atmosphere of the street and the structural sophistication of modern jazz rise up at once. Highlights include the light, flowing development of B2; B3, where Louiss’ organ shines vividly within the large ensemble, lending a distinctive humidity to the thick resonance of the horns; and Side D, where a more festive, earthy brass sound comes to the fore, offering a uniquely French sense of street atmosphere and theatricality quite unlike a conventional jazz big band. Also especially recommended are A2, filled with the lyricism of French contemporary jazz, and C1/D4, whose Latin-fusion feel brings a wonderfully refreshing mood.
A2: Jardin D’hiver
C1: Historie De Fou
D3: Mélancolie
