An album released on ECM in 1977 by Brazil’s world-renowned composer, guitarist, and pianist Egberto Gismonti, recorded as a duo with his longtime collaborator, percussionist Nana Vasconcelos. Highlights include A2, an acoustic version of the opening track from the previous year’s Brazilian EMI classic Corações Futuristas, as well as a stunning unplugged session in which Nana’s primal, deeply rooted percussion and Gismonti’s cascading melodies on 8-string acoustic guitar rain down like a tropical squall—overflowing with physicality and raw energy, as if wandering deep into the Amazon jungle. Gismonti’s dazzling acoustic piano performances that emerge on the B side are simply breathtaking. Though the album is divided into multiple tracks, each side unfolds as a profound suite running over 24 minutes. Needless to say, this comes very highly recommended. Original German pressing.
