Released in 1982, this album is by Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava, who recorded extensively for adventurous German jazz labels ECM and JAPO. Although his music ranges widely from modal jazz to contemporary and free improvisation, his distinctive tone and memorable melodic phrasing remain unmistakable throughout. Rava is joined by Franco D’Andrea on piano, Furio Di Castri on bass, and Aldo Romano on drums and guitar. Highlights include the light and beautifully flowing, bossa-inflected B1 and B2, featuring a superbly bright piano solo from D’Andrea. A warm and inviting album, with a relaxed atmosphere that drifts gently through the entire performance. The occasional bursts of free improvisation are characteristically Rava—playful and full of wit. Perfect for unwinding with a cold beer.
