This album, released in 1987 by the American reed player Eric Dolphy, who had been active on the forefront since the late 1940s and was known as a pioneer for using bass clarinet as a lead instrument in jazz. It includes one track recorded in New York in 1960 and four tracks from a live broadcast at the ORTF radio station in Paris in 1964. The standout performance is undoubtedly the Septet featuring Donald Byrd (tp), Nathan Davis (ts), Jean-Claude Fohrenbach (ts), Jacques B. Hess (b), Franco Manzechi (ds), and Billy Brooks (per), who tackle John Coltrane's historic classic "Naima" on A1. The lead instrument gently floats along with a Latin-infused percussion beat, creating a delightful and soothing performance.
