The only album by the mysterious group Favela—named after the Brazilian term for slums—self-released in 1989. The recordings, made that same year in Hamburg, Germany, feature Brazilian percussionist Sérgio Boré, whose 1983 release Tambores Urbanos Mãos Amigas was introduced in the guidebook Obscure Sound: 640 Dreamlike Records, though the other musicians appear to be virtually unknown. Centered around authentic capoeira, this hidden gem delivers light and breezy Brazilian music that blends R&B, modern soul, pop, and reggae.
The B-side has a minor warp, but it’s playable (confirmed on a Technics SL-1200mk5 with an Audio-Technica AT-VM95E).
