This 1975 album by Iraqi singer and master of the oud and oboe, Fawzi Al Aiedy, was recorded after he moved to France in 1971 amid Iraq's worsening political climate. Released as part of Le Chant Du Monde's Le Nouveau Chansonnierseries, it was recorded while Al Aiedy was studying at The Ecole Nationale de Musique de Boulogne-Billancourt. The album features original compositions rooted in Iraqi folk music, including Taqsim and other traditional forms. His distinctive vocal style, combined with the dry, resonant tones of the oud playing oriental scales, leaves a lasting impression in this superb example of Third World music. The gentle echo adds a pleasing touch to this exceptional recording. Highly recommended.
