Progressions
Hep Records (UK) 1988

sleeve : EX(SOC, some small and slightly dirts.)
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noises.)

The second album by Forward Motion, jazz quartet featuring Tommy Smith (ts), who also plays with the Milan Svobofa Big Band and Ahmad Mansour Quartet, Lazlo Gardonyi (p), Terje Gewelt (b), Ian Froman (ds), and others. All of the six songs on this album are original scores by the members, and while carrying a spirituality that has some influence from Pharoah Sanders, it also features straight-ahead modal jazz, floating urban jazz, and contemporary jazz, and is a great example of the band's ability to create a unique sound that is both fun and exciting. This is an excellent work that could have been released on ECM. Jan Erik Kongsbaug, who has worked with Manfred Eicher on many ECM albums, did the recording engineering, and the sound is very pleasing.
