An album released in 1983 by Italian pianist Franco D’Andrea, who also delivered outstanding performances on Enrico Rava’s Ah (ECM, 1980) and Tiziana Ghiglioni’s acclaimed 1987 album Somebody Special. The recording features a trio with drummer Barry Altschul, known for his sessions with Paul Bley, Chick Corea, Anthony Braxton, and Gato Barbieri, and bassist Mark Helias, who has left remarkable collaborations with Ray Anderson and Gerry Hemingway. Recorded that same year in a Milan studio, the album captures D’Andrea’s piano weaving delicate melodic lines with refined touch, set against Altschul’s gently pulsing drums and Helias’s minimal yet resonant bass on A1, while B1 sways with a tender waltz beat. From elegant contemporary jazz infused with deep spiritual resonance to modal and post-bop explorations, the trio presents a superb spectrum of expression.
