Frank Lowe Quintet
Exotic Heartbreak
Soul Note (Italy) 1982
SN 1032 (LP) coated sleeve.
sleeve : NM-
media : EX-/EX-(some slightly noises.)

1982 by American saxophonist Frank Lowe, who has left behind an impressive body of solo and leader work, including contributions to Don Cherry's Ralativity Suite and Brown Rice, Alic Coltrane's World Galaxy, etc. The quintet featured the female pianist Amina Claudine Myers, who has left outstanding works for Minor Music, as well as Butch Morris (cornet), Wilber Morris (b) and Tim Pleasant (dr). Opening with an Ornette Coleman cover (A1), the quintet then moved on to the blues and early jazz of A2 with its exquisite breakdowns, and the exotically swinging title track (B2) with a mysterious air, all of which were ensemble-oriented and in keeping with Soul Note's label image. This is a masterpiece of ensemble-oriented avant-jazz that is in keeping with Soul Note's label image. The artwork, in the vein of Moki Cherry, is also good.
