An ambient project that pairs Robert Fripp, the driving force behind the legendary UK progressive rock band King Crimson, with Brian Eno at the very moment he had left Roxy Music and founded his own Obscure label. This is Fripp & Eno’s 1975 release, their second album following the 1973 debut (No Pussyfooting). Here, the direction shifts decisively into fully fledged ambient / experimental territory, yet the music prominently features shimmering electric guitar textures that resonate strongly with the spirit of Krautrock—recalling figures such as Manuel Göttsching, Moebius, Roedelius, and their work with Harmonia. The opening track, A1, in particular, has become a canonical reference point for ambient and chill-out music in club culture from the 1990s onward, and continues to be widely cited to this day. Side B presents a single, side-long piece: an endlessly deep drone formed from synthesizers and electric guitar feedback, filling the entire surface of the record. A monumental track in its own right, and unquestionably a cornerstone of the genre. A historical masterpiece. This copy is the 1981 US reissue.
