A key member of Japan’s first progressive rock band, Far East Family Band, alongside Kitaro and Osamu Ito, synthesist Fumio Miyashita went on to craft a large body of spiritual electronic music deeply informed by Japanese religious thought. This 1983 release is an image album inspired by the world of Arion, the anime film based on the original work by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the legendary creator behind the character designs and direction of Mobile Suit Gundam as well as numerous other landmark anime productions. Aside from the theme song sung by Sumiko Yamagata, the album consists entirely of Miyashita’s synthesizer music. Much like Earth, issued the same year, its pure sound production built from drum machines and synthesizers, coupled with its distinctly oriental melodic sense, points toward the celebrated Tenkawa / Isuzu and the New Age works that would follow, making this a true turning-point album in Miyashita’s catalog.
