Discovered by drummer Chico Hamilton, Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo—who established his own unique style by absorbing jazz, rock, and various forms of folk music and also performed with artists such as Cal Tjader and Gary McFarland—released this album in 1967. It features a quartet with Bob Bushnell (g), Johnny Gregg (b), and Bernard “Pretty” Purdie (ds). Drawing on his roots in Gypsy music while also responding to the flourishing psychedelic culture of the era, Szabo presents an exotic, flower-tinged jazz throughout the album. A truly outstanding record, it includes not only his original compositions but also a Duke Ellington classic and even a cover of The Rolling Stones. Highly recommended from start to finish. Original US pressing.
