A truly outstanding 1966 album by Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo, known for his distinctive style blending jazz, rock, folk, and various forms of traditional music. Szabo also worked with such notable figures as Chico Hamilton, Cal Tjader, and Gary McFarland. The lineup alone speaks for itself, featuring first-rate musicians including Chico Hamilton on drums, Ron Carter on bass, Willie Bobo on percussion, and Victor Pantoja on percussion. From the exhilarating A1, driven by a strong Afro-Cuban flavor, to A4, steeped in the spirit of the Gypsy music of Szabo’s own roots, the album is flawless from beginning to end. A stone-cold classic and one of the finest examples of Szabo’s unique vision of Gypsy jazz. Original US mono pressing with orange/black labels and the Rudy Van Gelder stamp in the dead wax.
A1: Spellbinder
A4: Gypsy Queen
B1: Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)
