A superb 1976 release from iconic Tropicália vocalist Gal Costa, devoted entirely to the songbook of legendary Brazilian composer Dorival Caymmi. Featuring contributions from João Donato (piano) and Roberto Menescal (violão). From the irresistibly shuffling carnival samba of B5 to a set of beautifully refined Brazilian-groove arrangements of Caymmi classics, this is a consistently rewarding album throughout. The undeniable highlight, however, is A5 — a breathtaking track where Gal’s enigmatic, floating vocal rides over a languid, gently percussive rhythm. Every cut is superb, but ultimately it’s this one piece that seals the deal.

A8: Grass Dance Song
