American saxophonist Gary Bartz, who worked as a sideman for Max Roach, Art Blakey, and McCoy Tyner in the 1960s and with Miles Davis in the 1970s, has continued to play with the changing times, from bop to fusion. This is a leader album released in 1969. The album was recorded in the studio with such cutting-edge musicians as Pharoah Sanders, Stanley Cowell, Reggie Workman, Freddie Waits, and Charles Tolliver, and is based on a hard bop format, but with a soulful and melodic phrasing that is evident at key moments. This is a masterpiece of early spiritual jazz. It is also a rare opportunity to hear Sanders' playing at the end of the 60s. This Japanese pressing was released in the same year as the US pressing. The obi/insert is not included.
