This album was released in 1981 by American vibraphonist Gary Burton, who has been active since the early 1960s and contributed numerous remarkable works to ECM, showcases his quartet featuring Jim Odgren (alto sax), Steve Swallow (bass), and Mike Hyman (drums). The recordings were made in 1980 at Tonstudio Bauer in Ludwigsburg, Germany, a studio favored by ECM. Highlights include the moody tango-jazz piece A1 composed by Carla Bley, also featured on her 1981 album Social Studies; A2 and B3, composed by Burton's longtime collaborator Chick Corea; and B1, a piece originally performed on Mick Goodrick's 1979 ECM masterpiece In Pas(s)ing. The album also features elegant interpretations of Duke Ellington standards, making it a sophisticated contemporary jazz work for discerning listeners.

B1: Summer Band Camp
