A 1974 album by American vibraphonist Gary Burton, who had been active since the early 1960s and went on to record numerous outstanding works for ECM. The album is built around scores by Michael Gibbs, known for his orchestral arrangements in progressive rock and hard rock as well as his work in jazz. Burton is joined by Mick Goodrick (g), Steve Swallow (b), and Ted Seibs (ds), with the NDR Symphony Orchestra from Hamburg, Germany, adding a grand and dramatic chamber-orchestra dimension to the music. The pieces that place Burton’s vibraphone solos and the quartet’s interplay more prominently in the foreground are equally superb.
