This is a 1975 album featuring American vibraphonist Gary Burton, who had been active since the early 1960s and had also contributed excellent works to ECM. In this album, he collaborates with American bassist Steve Swallow, with whom he worked in Stan Getz's group. In addition to their main instruments, the vibraphone, marimba, and bass, Burton also showcases the organ, and Swallow plays the piano. The title track, A2, is a delightful piece with a harmonious blend of bass and organ, delivering light and airy melodies primarily in the higher register. Track B1, where they emotionally interpret Carl Bley's score, is another highlight. The entire album captures the essence of contemporary jazz that hints at the direction ECM would take in the future. The original German pressing is now available.
