Released in 1979, this album is by jazz bassist Gary Peacock, who immersed himself in the free-jazz movement of early-1960s New York and performed with musicians such as Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, before later working extensively in the late 1970s with ECM-associated artists including Art Lande, Jack DeJohnette, and Keith Jarrett. Jan Garbarek appears on saxophone on two tracks, while the remainder of the album consists entirely of solo bass performances. Peacock delivers deeply lyrical playing through an almost guitar-like technique in which he sustains riffs while simultaneously developing melodic solo lines, resulting in a profoundly spiritual work of remarkable depth. There is a genuine sense of song in his playing. The duo performances with Garbarek are equally superb, steeped in an understated and deeply resonant atmosphere.
