This album, released in 1962, features Italian flutist Severino Gazzelloni, who served as the principal flutist of the Rome Symphony Orchestra of the Italian Broadcasting Corporation and was known in the 1960s as the "Guardian of the Avant-Garde" and the "Magician." It includes solo flute pieces composed by Franco Evangelisti, Luciano Berio, and Yoritsune Matsudaira, as well as flute and piano works by Niccolò Castiglioni, Olivier Messiaen, and Bruno Maderna. The recording captures the raw, vivid sounds of the flute and piano, with no room echo or studio effects whatsoever.
