Featured in the first edition of the guidebook obscure sound, this 1979 leader album is by American tenor saxophonist George Adams. This is the US pressing, licensed from the Dutch jazz label Timeless. The outstanding cuts are A2, a soulful slow jazz tune reminiscent of Pharoah Sanders; B1, a cool and breezy spiritual samba-jazz piece with a flavor close to Sanders’ Thembi; and above all B2, a superb jazz-funk workout running for over fourteen minutes, where Adams’ own gravelly blues vocals intertwine with a hip-shaking, mid-tempo percussive funk beat. The organic flute-led development in the middle section is also incredibly cool.
