Music for a Summer Evening (Makrokosmos III)
Nonesuch (US) 1975
H-71311 (LP) Company inner sleeve
sleeve : EX- (slightly faded)
media : EX+/EX+ (some slight surface noise in parts)
This is a 1975 album by American contemporary composer George Crumb, who dedicated many years to music education as a university professor. Known for his development of extended techniques and research into timbres, this album is the third installment in a series expressing the macrocosmos with two amplified pianos and percussion. Gilbert Kalish (p), James Freeman (p), Raymond DesRoches (perc), and Richard Fitz (perc) perform this grand suite of 40 minutes, composed of five movements. The acoustic piano and percussion resonate three-dimensionally within a wide sound field, creating a zero-gravity space. The high-frequency harmonics of the percussion, in particular, extend very pleasantly.
A1: Nocturnal Sounds (The Awakening)
B2: Music of the Starry Night
