Shadowgraph
Black Saint (Italy) 1978
BSR 0016 (LP)
sleeve : VG+(light dirts.)
media : EX-/EX-(some light noises.)

Leader album released in 1978 by George Lewis, a member of the AACM in Chicago, USA, organised around Richard Abrams, and a trombonist at the heart of the Chicago jazz scene since the mid-1970s. Each of the four tracks on the album has a different structure, but it features his close friend, multi-reedist Douglas Ewart, as well as Leroy Jenkins (violin), Anthony Davis (p), Muhal Richard Abrams (p), Roscoe Mitchell (sax) and many others. AACM Connection stalwarts take part in the project. The album is a piece of experimental free jazz in the direct vein of the Art Ensemble of Chicago and Anthony Braxton, starting with B1, where the lead instruments growl like animal noises along with trippy electronic sounds and hardware percussion, but it's also very organic and has a wonderful sense of back-to-nature.

B1: Cycle
B2: Shadowgraph,5 (Sextet)
