This is a 1978 leader album by George Lewis, a trombonist who has been a key figure in the Chicago jazz scene since the mid-70s and a member of AACM, an organization founded by Richard Abrams in Chicago. Each of the four tracks on the album has a different structure, featuring AACM heavyweights like multi-reed player Douglas Ewart, Leroy Jenkins (violin), Anthony Davis (piano), Muhal Richard Abrams (piano), and Roscoe Mitchell (saxophone). The album features experimental free jazz akin to the Art Ensemble of Chicago and Anthony Braxton, with trippy electronic sounds, metallic percussion, and reed instruments writhing like animal calls, especially on B1. Despite its experimental nature, the music feels highly organic and evokes a sense of returning to nature, which is truly remarkable.
