This is an album released in 1985 by Giorgio Gaslini, a pianist from Milan who was highly regarded as a leader of the Italian new jazz scene. The artwork has a very homely atmosphere, and as the title suggests, this is a performance of a piece Gaslini composed for a concert he gave in Beijing, China. The quartet, featuring Claudio Allifranchini, Piero Leveratto, and Paolo Pellegatti, plays a 26-minute suite on the A-side, which is a little less free jazz than on Gaslini's other works, and more spiritual jazz reminiscent of Don Cherry and Pharoah Sanders, with a soft touch of oriental melodies that sometimes appear. A very good performance.
