Known for contributing numerous compositions to artists such as Bobbi Humphrey and Ernestine Anderson, Gloria Coleman was a versatile musician active in both jazz and soul, playing bass as well as keyboards including piano and organ. This is her debut album as a leader, released in 1964 and produced by Bob Thiele, who was responsible for many classic recordings on the Impulse! label. The quartet features Grant Green on guitar and Leo Wright on alto saxophone, along with female drummer Pola Roberts, who was active in the gospel scene. Coleman plays organ throughout the album. An absolute classic filled from start to finish with deeply grooving jazz that draws on the essence of soul, funk, and blues. Original US pressing.
